Launch of ‘Turtle Tides’ Kids Club and Employee Volunteer Program
AX ODYCY Hotel is proud to announce an exciting new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in collaboration with Nature Trust Malta. This partnership includes the branding of the hotel’s kids club and various touchpoints aimed at kids around the hotel as ‘Turtle Tides,’ as well as rallying ODYCY employees to volunteer in numerous environmental initiatives spearheaded by the NGO.
On 1st August 2024, Mr. Joseph Vella, General Manager at AX ODYCY Hotel, hosted Mr. Vincent Attard, Executive President of Nature Trust Malta, showcasing the installations around the hotel that celebrate this meaningful partnership. The ‘Turtle Tides’ Kids Club is designed to raise awareness about the beloved loggerhead turtle that is very much synonymous with the Maltese Islands, while providing a safe place for kids to engage in play and providing information about turtle conservation in Malta.
“We are thrilled to partner with Nature Trust Malta to launch ‘Turtle Tides,'” said Mr. Joseph Vella. “This initiative is a perfect blend of education, fun, and conservation, allowing our younger guests to interact with the installations at various touchpoints around the hotel to raise awareness about the loggerhead turtle conservation. Our employees are equally excited to volunteer their time and efforts towards preserving our ecosytstem by volunteering as turtle nest watchers and at the rehab centre in Xrobb L-Ghagin.”
The installations around AX ODYCY Hotel include a branded wall in the Kids Club, a photo opportunity near the indoor pool with sea creatures and a dedicated branded Kids’ Station at our buffet restaurant. Information on how guests can also volunteer and engage with Nature Trust during turtle releases is also available for them with the Guest Experience Team and fun yet educational talks for kids at the Kids Club are in the pipeline.
Nature Trust Malta, an NGO dedicated to the protection of Malta’s natural environment, has been at the forefront of loggerhead turtle conservation. Their efforts include rescuing injured turtles, protecting nesting sites, and educating the public about marine conservation. The loggerhead turtle, native to the Mediterranean Sea, has faced numerous threats due to habitat loss, pollution, and human interference, making conservation efforts more critical than ever.
“We are delighted to collaborate with AX ODYCY on the ‘Turtle Tides’ initiative,” said Mr. Vincent Attard. “This partnership not only enhances our outreach to the younger generation but also strengthens our conservation efforts with the valuable support of ODYCY’s enthusiastic employees. Together, we can make a significant impact on protecting the loggerhead turtle and other marine life around the Maltese Islands.”
As part of this initiative, AX ODYCY has also sponsored T-shirts for turtle nest volunteers on Maltese beaches. These T-shirts, proudly worn by volunteers during their shifts and while assisting in crowd control during turtle releases, symbolize the joint effort between ODYCY and Nature Trust Malta in safeguarding these majestic creatures.
Through ‘Turtle Tides,’ AX ODYCY aims to foster a sense of environmental stewardship among its guests and staff, highlighting the importance of preserving Malta’s rich marine biodiversity. This collaboration underscores AX ODYCY’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement, paving the way for a brighter, greener future.
