Plan Your Trip on Malta’s Sister Island of Gozo

Malta’s sister island, Gozo is ideal for relaxation and to get away from the busy lifestyle. Locals living in Malta tend to take the ferry ride to the island for a weekend getaway, a break in the summer holidays or during Carnival weekend.

Gozo is considered to be the greener island. There are a number of trekking possibilities that you can explore such as San Lawrenz to Xlendi, Xlendi to Qala, Qala to Marsalforn or Marsalform to San Lawrenz.

If you’re visiting during the hot summer days, there are plenty of beaches to go to. Ramla l-Hamra is one of the most popular beaches in Gozo while San Blas Bay is famous for being a secluded beach with an incredible view. Other popular beaches include Hondoq ir-Rummien, Xlendi, Dwejra Bay, Wied il- Ghasri and others.

As common with the Maltese, food and drink are a big part of Gozo’s life. Some of the award-winning restaurants, not only have the best cuisine, but also offer spectacular views. Such restaurants are located in Xlendi, Rabat, Marsalforn and Mgarr. When it comes to traditional Gozitan food, Gozo is known for its particular ftiras that look like a pizza (typically found at Maxokk Bakery and Mekren Bakery) and for Gozitan cheeselets (gbejniet).

This sister island was previously known for the famous landmark of Azure Window. However, due to extreme weather conditions, the window collapsed in 2017. The Game of Thrones location is still widely visited by tourists, even without this landmark, since the views are exceptional. Dwejra Bay is located here and it is the perfect spot for snorkelling in Gozo.

If you’re a history buff, you can visit the Ggantija Temples, The Citadel or the Basilica of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu to discover Gozo’s heritage first-hand.

One thing’s for sure. You can travel far and high but there’s nowhere quite like Gozo!

Dive in at Marsalforn Bay

Marsalforn Bay, located in Malta’s sister island Gozo, is one of the most popular beaches on the island, mostly due to its large number or amenities and its safety and cleanliness. In fact, the bay has been awarded the Blue Flag, which asserts that it’s well-equipped, secure, and up to standard!
