AX Group Chairman Angelo Xuereb awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Tourism

Mr. Angelo Xuereb, the founder and Chairman of AX Group, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award in Tourism’ by the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation. This recognition not only is testament to Mr. Xuereb’s impact on the hospitality sector but also acknowledges his commitment to the success of Malta’s tourism industry.

Mr. Xuereb’s journey in hospitality began with the establishment of the four-star AX Sunny Coast Resort & Spa in 1983. He then developed the Suncrest Hotel in 1988, which was the largest 4-star hotel in Malta for over two decades. In 1997, AX Group made history as the first leisure industry company listed on the Malta Stock Exchange.

A pioneer in the development of award-winning hotels and restaurants, Mr. Xuereb contributed to the creation of the five-star AX The Palace Malta, the four-star AX The Victoria Hotel, and AX Palazzo Capua. In 2017, AX Hotels undertook the restoration of AX The Saint John in Valletta and the five-star Rosselli – AX Privilege on Merchants Street, expanding the impressive AX Hotels collection of hotels and dining establishments.

In a recent achievement, Mr. Xuereb transformed Seashells Resort at Suncrest into the AX ODYCY Hotel in Qawra, demonstrating his commitment to the area’s development. The vision for the Qawra project extends beyond the hotel, aiming to regenerate the area into a sought-after destination. Concurrently, the Verdala Wellness Hotel is being conceptualised as a unique and unrivaled wellness destination in Malta, set to open after 2024.

The ‘Lifetime Achievement Award in Tourism’ not only celebrates past accomplishments but also signifies the promise of a continued legacy of excellence in hospitality under Mr. Xuereb’s guidance, with the continued support of his daughters Claire Zammit Xuereb, Director of Hospitality, and Denise Xuereb, the Board of Directors, management, investors, and a dedicated workforce.
